The Sonic Drive-In Player-of-the-Game for Wednesday, April 10, is Natasha Fox of the Gainesville softball team.
Fox had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 8th inning to give Gainesville a 1-0 win against visiting Santa Fe (Alachua) in a match-up of top 10 teams.
GHS (15-4), which entered the game ranked 8th in Class 7A in the Miracle Sports state rankings, loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 8th, and then the senior delivered with a ground ball single up the middle, scoring Ashton Palmer from third as the Hurricanes swept the 2-game series.
Santa Fe (15-4), which is ranked 4th in Class 5A, got a good pitching performance from Hailey Raulerson, who limited the ‘Canes to just four hits. Fox had two of those hits, including the game-winner.
Alissa Humphrey allowed just two hits with no walks and 13 strikeouts to pick up the win for Gainesville, which will host nationally-ranked Lakewood Ranch (Bradenton) & Oakleaf (Orange Park) on Saturday.
