Prep Zone Power Poll – 2013 Football – Week 7

Published:

Columbia TigersGainesville – There was very little movement in this week’s Prep Zone Power Poll as only one ranked team lost.

The top three teams remained the same, while the Nos. 4 & 5 teams flip-flopped.

Columbia (Lake City) remained No. 1. The Tigers (6-0) received six of the seven first-place votes following a 44-20 win over Orange Park.

Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) received the other first-place vote and remained No. 2 following a 59-7 win against Episcopal (Jacksonville). But the Conquerors (5-0) have a tough two-game stretch coming up with games at Godby (Tallahassee) and at home against unbeaten IMG Academy (Bradenton), plus a season-ending road trip to 6A Vanguard (Ocala).

Raines (Jacksonville) remained No. 3. The Vikings (4-1) defeated Baldwin, 46-0. Their only loss this season was at Miami Northwestern.

Meanwhile, Fletcher (Neptune Beach) and South Sumter (Bushnell) flip-flopped as Fletcher’s 20-17 win over Atlantic Coast (Jacksonville) in overtime dropped the Senators (4-1) one spot to fifth, while the Raiders (6-0) moved up to fourth following a 38-14 win over Pasco (Dade City).

First Coast (Jacksonville) (4-1) and Mainland (Daytona Beach) (5-1) moved ahead of Bolles (Jacksonville) (4-1) to Nos. 6 & 7 respectively, while the ‘Dogs, who were off, dropped to No. 8. Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) (4-0) remained ninth and Fleming Island (Orange Park) (6-0) stayed at No. 10.

Union County (Lake Butler) was the only team in the top 20 to fall as the Class 1A Tigers (5-1) lost 30-12 at No. 16 Dixie County (Cross City) (4-0) and dropped out of this week’s poll. That opened the door for Chiefland (5-0), which was idle, to move into the poll for the first time this season at No. 20.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
