Prep Zone Power Poll – 2013 Football – Week 10

Published:

Gainesville – The top five teams remained intact in the Prep Zone Power Poll.

Top-ranked South Sumter (Bushnell) cruised to a 63-20 win over Weeki Wachee to clinch the Class 5A-District 6 title. The Raiders (9-0), who are averaging 48.3 points per game, held on to the top spot for the second consecutive week by picking up five of the seven first-place votes.

In fact, No. 1 South Sumter gained a little separation from the No. 2 team in the process. The Raiders, who have won 19 of their past 20 games, now lead #2 First Coast (Jacksonville) by seven total voting points, 135-128.

The second-ranked Bucs (7-1), who play at #11 Sandalwood (Jacksonville) (7-1) for the Class 8A-District 1 championship this Friday, shut out West Port (Ocala), 37-0, and remained second with one first-place vote. However, the gap between the top two teams was only three points, 132-129, in last week’s poll.

Class 6A Mainland (Daytona Beach) (7-1), which received the other first-place vote, is ranked third, followed by 7A Fleming Island (Orange Park) (8-0) and 3A Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) (6-1) in the top five. Class 5A Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) (7-0) moved up one spot to sixth, but there was a shake-up in the poll from 7th-10th.

Ed White (Jacksonville) moved ahead of Columbia (Lake City), while Raines (Jacksonville) and Fletcher (Neptune Beach) flip-flopped in this week’s poll.

The 6A Commanders (7-1), who beat Columbia earlier this year, and the 6A Tigers (7-1), now rank seventh and eighth, respectively. Meanwhile, the Vikings (6-2) and Senators (6-2) round out the top 10 by ranking ninth and 10th, respectively. Fletcher edged Raines, 16-14, on October 11, at Fletcher.

Class 2A Warner Christian (South Daytona) (6-1) and 3A Trinity Catholic (Ocala) (5-3) re-entered the poll and are tied at No. 20.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball, baseball & softball teams (regardless of FHSAA classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
