Prep Zone Power Poll – 2012/2013 Basketball #3

GAINESVILLE – The top team in the boys’ basketball Prep Zone Power Poll keeps on winning.

Providence (Jacksonville) went 2-0 last week, including a 79-71 win over #11 Ed White (Jacksonville), to run its record to 17-0. The 3A Stallions received all seven first-place votes.

Father Lopez (Daytona Beach) remained second in the poll. The Class 3A Green Wave (16-2) went 3-0 last week. Their only losses this season are to #3 Leesburg and Lake Highland Prep (Orlando), the top-ranked team in Class 4A.

The 6A Yellow Jackets (14-3), a final four participant last season, remained third following their 11th consecutive win. Leesburg has wins this season against #2 Father Lopez and #7 Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville).

Wolfson (Jacksonville) remained fourth. The 6A Wolfpack (14-1) won both of their games last week.

North Florida Educational Institute (Jacksonville) moved up two spots to No. 5. The 2A Eagles (16-3) have wins this year against Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville), Potter’s House Christian (Jacksonville) and Norland (Miami), the top-ranked team in Class 6A.

Despite at 3-0 week, Hawthorne dropped one spot to sixth. The Hornets (19-1) have won five in a row and own wins against 8A Southridge (Miami), 5A (Eastside (Gainesville), 5A Suwannee (Live Oak), 4A Santa Fe (Alachua) (twice) and 4A Trinity Catholic (Ocala) (twice).

Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) moved up five spots to No. 7. The Crusaders (13-4) had wins against previous #6 Bartram Trail (St. Johns) and previous #9 Terry Parker (Jacksonville) last week.

Nature Coast (Brooksville) (12-3), Bartram Trail (St. Johns) (16-2) and New Smyrna Beach (15-3) all round out the top 10.

Raines (Jacksonville) (12-4) re-enters the poll at No. 19, and Williston (12-5) enters the poll for the first time this season at No. 20.

The Prep Zone Power Poll ranks the top 20 high school football, basketball and baseball teams (regardless of classification) across 26 counties in North Florida (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Citrus, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Marion, Nassau, Putnam, Sumter, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, Union & Volusia counties). It is voted on weekly by sportswriters and sportscasters.
