- September 16 is Deshawn Roland of the Chiefland football team. Roland had 135 yards rushing on only nine carries, caught three passes for 54 yards, and scored three touchdowns as Chiefland won its first district game since 2009 with a 34-0 win over Newberry in the 1A-5 district opener. The senior dominated the first half for the Indians’ (4-0) by picking up a touchdown rushing and another one receiving, while breaking off runs of 45, 31 and 27 yards. He also had a 55-yard touchdown called back on a holding penalty.
Sonic Player-of-the-Game
- Friday, September 20, was Dantez Willis of the Eastside (Gainesville) football team. Willis scored the game-winning touchdown on a 20-yard run with 3:03 to play in the game as Eastside defeated Belleview on the road, 34-31, for its first win of the season. Willis combined with QB Malachi Lofland to rush for 187 yards for the defending district champion Rams (1-3, 1-0).
