Buchholz (Gainesville) Bobcats
Coach: Mark Whittemore
Record: 6-3
Key Players: Terrance Young (Sr., SS), Blake Mitchell (Sr., WR), Edward Cason (Sr., RB), Jakhai Mitchem (Sr., SB), Trent Whittemore (Sr., WR, FS), Isaiah Michel (Sr., WR), Camden Orth (Sr., QB), Terrell Jackson (So., WR), Noah Keeter (Sr., DE, TE), Roderick Jackson (Sr., WR), Samuel Holmes
Outlook: The Bobcats’ 5-game win streak ended last Friday after falling to Bartram Trail (St. Johns) in a mere 38-35 loss. Bartram Trail mustered together the power to be victorious by help from their seniors, rallying from a 14-0 first quarter deficit, and 21-10 score at the half. Now, the Bobcats will look to secure their own district fate this week against the Santa Fe Raiders. The Bobcats are in a 3-way tie in their 7A-District 3 with Oakleaf (Orange Park) and Bartram Trail that will not be decided until after tonight’s game. The ‘Cats head coach Mark Whittemore says his team needs to handle adversity better and play their game.
Santa Fe (Alachua) Raiders
Coach: Dock Pollard
Record: 5-4
Key Players: Deron Reid (Jr., QB), Dillion Wiggins (So., K), Balin Strickland, (So., DE, WR), Jeremiah Crews (Jr., QB), Deonte Graham (Sr., CB, RB), Kynian Murphy (Jr., RB, SS), Darrius Powell (Jr., MLB, FB), Cortavis Evans (Jr., CB FS), Jarvis Decoursey (Sr., WR, CB, SS)
Outlook: Santa Fe will look to conquer last week’s woes tonight against Buchholz. Last week, the Raiders took on Eastside and put up a convincing performance up until the third quarter when things took a turn for the worst. Leading 14-12 with just 3:38 left in the third, the Rams took charge and capitalized every time they had possession of the ball, making the final score 32-14. As Buchholz had some troubles of their own last week, also dropping a game, tonight will be a battle of who wants to win more. The Raiders have gone from a 1-win season in 2017 to a No. 1 seed in 4A-Region 1 in 2018.
