Miami Senior’s Beatrice Mompremier Named 2015 Miss Basketball

GAINESVILLE (March 25) – Senior Beatrice Mompremier of Miami Senior High School has been named the 2015 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Basketball following a final round of voting by a statewide panel of high school coaches and media representatives.

Mompremier, a 6-foot-4 center who is a 2015 McDonald’s All-American and has signed with Baylor University, enjoyed a banner final prep season. She averaged 26.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game in leading the Stingarees to a 29-3 record and their second straight Class 8A state championship.

Mompremier, the 2014 Miss Basketball runnerup, was earlier named the Class 8A player of the year for the second consecutive season, totaled 176 points in the voting to finish ahead of Class 4A POY and University of North Carolina signee Destinee Walker from Lake Highland Prep (164 points). Tulane University signee and Class 7A POY Taylor Emery of Tampa Freedom finished third with 118 points.

Class 6A POY and Auburn University signee Janiah McKay of Gainesville also topped the century mark with 102 points to finish fourth, with Class 5A POY Jacaira Allen of state champion Ft. Lauderdale Dillard (87) in fifth place. Rounding out the voting in order were 3A POY and Duke University signee Crystal Primm from Oxbridge Academy (85), Class 2A POY Jazmine Jones of Tallassee FAMU (70) and Class 1A POY Katie O’Neal of Freeport (34).

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers’ commitment to the state’s youth. This is the 23rd year of these unique awards as we honor the state’s top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
