The beginning of the winter break also means the return of some of the top high school basketball holiday tournaments in the area.
In Gainesville, Robert Moramarco launches the Floridaprospects.com Invitational girl's basketball tournament at Gainesville High School from December 27-30, 2006. The tournament features some of the top girls basketball players in the country. A select number of games will be broadcast on the internet. More information will be available next week here on the message boards.
Also, Ocala Vanguard basketball coach James Haley is excited about this year's Kingdom of the Sun tournament at Vanguard High School (Dec. 27-30). Highlighting this year's participants is Columbia High School of Decatur, Ga. The defending 4A state champions of the “peach state” are the defending 2005 Kingdom champions. The Eagles ended their dream season with a 32-1 record and final #29 national ranking. Columbia returns 3 starters that boast 4 early college signees. All 4 senior starters gives this multi-talented 2006-07 group plenty of offense led by the 1-2 scoring punch of 6’9” Jeremy Price (15ppg-10 rebounds) who signed with the University of Georgia while 6’5” team mate Lance Storrs (17ppg) inked with Georgia Tech.
