Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of November 12 is Margaret Doyle* of the Buchholz volleyball team.

*The senior setter dished out 32 assists in a Class 6A Semifinal victory over Miami Killian
and 34 assists in Saturday night's 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 victory against Plant City Durant
as the Bobcats won their first-ever FHSAA volleyball state championship in school history

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of November 5 is Katie Robinson* of the Oak Hall volleyball team.

*The senior outside hitter had 43 kills and 37 digs in her team's two regional wins against
Jacksonville Providence on Tuesday and Orangewood Christian on Saturday as Oak Hall advanced
to its fourth straight finals appearance.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 29 is Jamie Bohunicky* of the Buchholz girls swim team.

*The junior won two state titles at the FHSAA SWimming & Diving Finals in Orlando.
Bohunicky won the 200-yard freestyle with an automatic All-American time of 1:46.55,
and she won the 100-yard freestyle with an automatic All-American time of 50.10.
Her performance helped the Lady Bobcats to a second place finish overall.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 22 is Will Indianos* of the Oak Hall football team.

*The junior completed 19-of-30 passes for 359 yards and six touchdowns
in Oak Hall's 62-6 victory over Academy at the Lakes. He completed five scoring
passes of 20 yards or more for the Eagles (3-4).

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 15 is Miles Harris* of the Eastside football team.

*Harris led Eastside with 127 yards rushing on 11 carries as the Rams stayed unbeaten
in district play with a 28-7 win over Belleview. Eastside has now won 10 consecutive
district games.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 8 is Dre Maddox* of the PK Yonge football team.

*The senior running back carried the ball 38 times for 337 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Wave (3-3)
defeated Fort White, 38-37. PK Yonge stopped Fort White (1-6) on a two-point conversion try
with two minutes remaining in the game.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 1 is Xavier Blake* of the Fort White football team.

*The junior running back carried the ball 25 times for 211 yards and four touchdowns
to help lead the Indians to a 58-22 win over Dixie County. The 58 points were the most
points scored in Fort White's seven-year history.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 24 is Albert Gary* of the North Marion football team.

*The senior scored four touchdowns and totalled 256 all-purpose yards, as North Marion (4-1) defeated
Clay 53-7 for the Colts fourth consecutive victory. Gary caught three passes for 146 yards and two
touchdowns, while adding 97 yards rushing and two more scores.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 17 is Rodney Scott* of the Dixie County football team.

*The junior tailback rushed for 191 of his game-high 282 yards in the second half in visiting Dixie
County’s 30-20 victory over Williston (2-2). Included in his 37 carries were four touchdowns, two in
each half. Most of his damage came in the third period when the Bears (2-2) turned a 14-12 advantage
into a 28-12 lead and he had 136 yards.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 10 is Derrick Dempsey* of the Trinity Catholic football team.

*The senior running back rushed for 235 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Celtics (2-1)
to a 48-28 win at home against Williston (2-1). He added his third TD on a 45-yard run with 6:24
remaining to give the Celtics an important two-TD cushion.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 3 is Greg Taylor* of the Keystone Heights football team.

*Taylor carried the ball 13 times for 213 yards and one touchdown in Keystone's 48-40 win over
Fort White. He teamed with Matt Story for a whopping 16 yards per carry average, an area high for
backs with 10 or more carries on the night

Our 'first' 2007-08 Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of August 27 is Antwan Ivey* of the Newberry football team.

*The senior running back rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers (1-0)
rallied for a 27-7 win at Santa Fe.

Our final 2006-07 Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of April 30 is Bryan Turner* of the Eastside track & field team.

*Turner claimed his second straight state championship in the high jump at the FHSAA
Track & Field Finals. The senior, who was seeded No. 1, jumped 6-08 helping the Rams to a
14th place finish overall.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of April 23 is Linval Joseph* of the Santa Fe track & field team.

*Joseph, a senior, won a state championship in the shot put at the FHSAA Class 2A Track
& Field Finals. The East Carolina football signee won with a throw of 56-feet, 2 inches.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of April 16 is Vanguard weightlifter Mason Thompson*.

*Thompson was part of a three-way tie for first place at the FHSAA Class 2A Weightlifting
Finals with a 725-pound total, but he finished third due to having a higher body weight than the
other two lifters. The senior bench pressed 415 pounds and clean-and-jerked 310 pounds.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of April 9 is Williston baseball player Jiwan James*.

*The senior and UF signee pitched his first perfect game in a 10-0 home victory
over Fort White. James, who struck out eight, also went 2-for-3 from the plate.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of April 2 is Solomon Taylor of the Vanguard boys track team*.

*Taylor won three county events at the Marion County Track & Field Championships,
winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 to lead the Knights to the boys team title.
It was the Knights first team title in over 15 years.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of March 26 is Gainesville baseball player Tyler Cook*.

*Cook went 7-10, including a double and triple vs. Newberry, with seven runs
scored and eight RBIs as the Hurricanes went 4-0 during the week to repeat as champions
of the Alachua County Baseball Tournament

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of February 26 is PK Yonge boys basketball player Willie Powers*.

*The 6-foot-2 Georgia Southern signee was the second-leading scorer by
average of those who played two games in Lakeland last week at the FHSAA
Boys Basketball Finals. Powers scored 37 in the semi's and 21 in the final
for an average of 29 ppg in leading the Blue Wave to a Class 3A state
runner-up finish

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of February 19 is The Rock boys
basketball player Vytas Sulskis*.

*Sulskis just missed a triple-double in a 58-32 win over Malone in the FHSAA
Region 1-Class 1A semifinals with 11 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
Four days later, the senior scored nine of his 14 points in the third
quarter to help his team to a 66-48 victory over Tallahassee Pope John Paul
in the region finals. The victory advanced The Rock to its first-ever trip
to the state semifinals.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of February 12 is PK Yonge boys basketball player Myk Brown*

*Brown scored all five of his field goals via the slam dunk to help lead PK
Yonge to a 75-28 victory over Crescent City in the first round of the FHSAA
state playoffs. The senior has signed to play next season at Virginia
Commonwealth.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of February 5 is Erica Cook of the Gainesville girls weightlifting team*.

*The senior capped off a 21-0 career at Gainesville by winning the state
championship in the 110-pound division at the FHSAA Girls Weightlifting
Finals on Saturday. Cook set state records in the bench press (160 pounds)
and total weight (310).

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of January 29 is St. Francis boys basketball player Billy Donovan III*

*Donovan, a freshman guard, recorded 93 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists
in three games. He was 18-of-33 on his 3-point attempts. In an 86-77 loss
to Branford on Thursday, Donovan scored a game-high 44 points and made eight
3-pointers.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of January 22 is Ocala Vanguard boys basketball player Freddie Riley*

*Riley led the Knights to three wins during the week, scoring 27 points
in a win over Lake Weir on Tuesday, 20 points in a victory over Crystal River on Friday
and 29 points in a 62-59 overtime win against North> Marion on Saturday

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of January 15 is Union County boys
basketball player Ted Young*.

*The senior guard, who is averaging 22 points per game, scored 28 points
against Chiefland on Monday, January 15, followed by 16 the following night
vs. Keystone and 28 against Pierson Taylor on Friday. Only twice this year
has Young been held to less than 10 points. On January 10, Young scored 45
points in a game at Hawthorne.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of November 27 is North Marion football
player Mike Brinkley*.

*Senior quarterback Mike Brinkley all but surpassed his output for his first
three playoff outings with a 20-of-32 effort for 332 yards and three
touchdowns. Brinkley finished his career with 6,191 yards passing and 64
touchdowns - both school records in 39 career starts

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of November 20 is Trinity
Catholic football player Antonio Allen*.

*Led by free safety Antonio Allen's 10 tackles and one forced fumble that
was returned for a touchdown, the Trinity Catholic Celtics cruised to their
27th consecutive victory and a spot in the Class 2B state championship
following a 50-7 win at Blounstown

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of November 6 is PK Yonge boys cross country runner Michael Anderson*.

*For the second consecutive year, Michael Anderson and his twin brother,
Geoffrey, finished 1-2 at the FHSAA Cross Country Finals. Michael's time of
15:42 was not only the fastest time in Class 1A, but also the fastest time
in all four classifications.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 30 is West Port boys swimmer Aaron Aiken*

*The senior won both the Class 2A 100 freestyle (45.42) and 200 freestyle (1:39.59). His time in the 100 was the fastest in the state in all classifications and both performances earned him All-American status. Set Marion County record in 200 freestyle.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 9 is Oak Hall football player Skyler Neale*.

*The junior wide receiver scored four times in the Eagles' loss to Bell.
Neale had 12 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a
rushing touchdown and a kickoff return for a score.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of October 2 is Buchholz football player Harrison Springer*.

*The senior quarterback posted career highs in completions, yards and
touchdowns in the 'Cats 28-7 win at Ocala Forest. Springer went 19-of-22
for 306 yards and four scores.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 25 is Gainesville running back Chris Batie*.

*Batie finished with 355-all purpose yards in a 43-36 loss to district foe,
Niceville. The senior had 257 yards rushing on 24 carries, 23 receiving
yards on four receptions and a 75-yard kickoff return. He added three
rushing touchdowns.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 18 is Ocala Forest running back Charles Ambrose*.

*Ambrose gained 277 total yards - 164 rushing and 113 receiving - and scored
five touchdowns in the Wildcats' 36-26 win over West Port.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 11 is Belleview running back Quentin Samuel.

The senior rushed for 274 yards and two touchdowns in the Rattlers' 35-26 win over Vanguard on Friday night at Booster Stadium.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of September 4 is Oak Hall volleyball player Marissa Odom*.

*The senior, who recently gave her verbal commitment to Georgia Southern, finished with 20 digs, 19 kills and 11 service points in a win over district rival Orange Park St. Johns Country Day.

Our Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of August 28 is Trinity Catholic (Ocala) football player John Brantley.

*The senior quarterback completed 14 of 25 passes for 213 yards in only one half
of work as the Celtics (2-0) defeated Arlington Country Day, 68-6, to extend its winning streak
to 16 games. Brantley threw for six touchdowns, while rushing for 58 yards on four carries that included a 27-yard first-quarter touchdown scramble.

Our 'first' Athlete-of-the-Week for the week of August 21 is Newberry football player Antwan Ivey*.

*The junior running back rushed for 251 yards and two touchdowns as Newberry defeated Santa Fe for the first time in five years. Ivey scored on runs of
64 and 15 yards for the Panthers.
