Trinity Catholic at Belleview kicks off our football radio coverage in 2017
A total of 11 regular season games will be broadcast ‘live’ on Florida Sports Talk radio in Gainesville (92.1 FM & 1230 AM) and Ocala (100.1 FM & 900 AM) every Friday night this fall.
The games will feature either a Marion County team or an Alachua County team each week, including games involving both neighboring counties and city showdowns. Our first broadcast of 2017 features a match-up of state playoff teams from a season ago (preview below).
Veteran announcer Mike Ridaught will handle the play-by-play while George Koziara of Divine Power Wear will provide ‘color’ commentary. Each game will feature a 30-minute Pre-Game Show and the SunState Federal Credit Union Post Game Show. Our Sonic Player-of-the-Game will receive a t-shirt and gift certificate to Sonic Drive-In.
In addition to our radio coverage, we’ll have video for a select number of games. We’ll have more information about our video coverage in a couple of weeks.
Friday, Aug. 25 – Trinity Catholic at Belleview
This was supposed to be a game between former Trinity Catholic football coach John Brantley and his former school. Brantley helped lead the Celtics to its second state title in 2010 and finished his career at Trinity Catholic with an overall record of 67-20. They were district champions every year, going 26-0 in league play — a Marion County record.
Brantley took the head coaching job at Belleview last year and helped lead the Rattlers to their first state playoff game in 10 years. However, Brantley stepped down as head coach in the spring. Meanwhile the Celtics advanced to the Class 3A state playoffs, which marked their 14th straight appearance in the postseason.
With the FHSAA’s new playoff format this season, this will be a good early season Marion County showdown and opportunity to get a good quality win that could mean something by season’s end.
