Friday, Feb. 10, Sonic Player-of-the-Game – Quez Clayton (Vanguard)

Sonic-logoOur Sonic Player-of-the-game for Friday, Feb. 10, is Quez Clayton of the Vanguard (Ocala) boys’ basketball team.

Clayton helped lead the Knights (21-6) to a 64-57 overtime win at Gainesville to win the Class 7A-District 4 title. It was Vanguard’s first win at GHS in 11 years and their first district title 2003.Quez Clayton - Vanguard

The senior finished with 21 points and made two big free throws with 11 seconds to play in regulation to give Vanguard a 51-48 lead and forcing the Hurricanes to hit a game-tying three at the buzzer to force OT.  Clayton played the fourth quarter and all of the overtime period with four fouls.

Vanguard will host St. Augustine in the first round of the Class 7A state playoffs, which begins on Thursday.
