Suwannee football preview

Suwannee_BulldogsSuwannee (Live Oak) Bulldogs (Class 5A-District 5)

2013 Record:  8-3

Head Coach:  Jamie Rodgers

Key Players:  Aaron McAllister (WR/DB, Jr.), Kodie Mercer (MLB, Sr.), Casey Reeves (S/WR, Sr.), Steven Anderson (QB, So.), Jai Kinsey (RB/LB, Sr.), Denzel Washington (RB/LB, Sr.), Javell McQuay (OLB, Sr.), Treyvon Crowley (OLB/DB, Sr.), Steven Potter (DE, Jr.), Trevor Ross (K/P, Sr.)

Outlook:  Rogers turned around the program in his second season as the Bulldogs, who won just three games in 2012, earned its first playoff appearance in 10 years in 2013.

Anderson is back under center and will get a boost with some experience and talent in the backfield. Washington led Santa Fe in rushing last season with 650 yards, while McAllister had 675 yards rushing and receiving. He returned the opening kick 95 yards for a touchdown in the spring game against Tallahassee Florida High. A total of seven starters return on offense.

Mercer (103 tackles), Reaves (91), McQuay (70) and Crowley (50) are back for a defense that returns eight starters. Last year, Suwannee only allowed an average of 5.2 points per game in district wins against Santa Fe, Eastside, Belleview, Dunnellon and Crystal River.

According to Rodgers, if the Bulldogs will put the work in during the summer, he believes they could have a special season.
