Trophy Shop Athlete-of-the-Week Presented by State Farm agent Mark McGriff

  • September 30 is Monte Seabrook of the Newberry football team. The senior carried the ball 17 times for a career-high 207 yards and two touchdowns (42 & 60 yards) as Newberry kept its postseason hopes alive with a 31-29 win over Williston in a Class 1A-District 7 game. Seabrook, who received his first offer from Utah last week, added 2.5 tackles and an interception. He also recovered an onside kick that sealed the win for the Panthers (4-2, 1-1).

Sonic Player-of-the-Game

  • Thursday, October 3, was Jared Goar of the Buchholz (Gainesville) football team. Goar had four catches for 39 yards and one TD, which came in the fourth quarter to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead with 8:34 to play in the game. The Bobcats (3-2) went on to defeat Bartram Trail (St. Johns), 24-21 , in triple overtime.
  • Friday, October 4, was Tony James of the Gainesville football team. James carried the ball 18 times for 147 yards as GHS defeated Forest (Ocala), 17-12, in a Class 6A-District 5 game on the road. The Oregon commit scored the decisive touchdown on a 37-yard run with 2:18 to play in the game to help lead the ‘Canes (4-1, 2-0) to their fourth consecutive victory.
